Terms of Use
The terms for using Oikou.
These terms cover the Oikou app for iPhone and iPad, your Oikou account, the Catalogue and Oikou Host. By using any of them you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

Who you’re agreeing with
These terms are between you and Contextual Labs, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada (“we” or “us”).
Your account
You need to be 13 or older to have an Oikou account. Give us an email address you control, keep your sign-ins to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
Acceptable use
When you use Oikou, don’t:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it;
- harass, threaten or exploit anyone, or share content that sexualises children;
- store or share content you don’t have the right to, or infringe anyone’s intellectual property or privacy;
- publish web apps to the Catalogue that are malware, deceive people about what they do, or take more access than they say;
- try to get into accounts or Personal Clouds that aren’t yours, or attack, overload or probe Oikou’s services;
- reverse-engineer the account service or get around its limits or security, except where the law allows it;
- use Oikou to send spam or invitations people didn’t ask for.
We may suspend or close accounts, and remove web apps from the Catalogue, that break these rules.
Your Personal Cloud
Oikou Host is free to run yourself on a computer you own. Your Personal Cloud runs there, under your control: you choose who can reach it, what runs on it and how it is backed up. You are responsible for that computer, its connection and the people you invite.
Oikou Host comes under its own licence, which you accept when you install it.
Web apps from the Catalogue
Web apps in the Catalogue are published by third parties, including us. Each one comes from its publisher under the publisher’s own licence and terms. A web app runs on your own Personal Cloud only if you choose to add it there, and with only the access you allow it.
We may review, label or remove web apps in the Catalogue, but we don’t guarantee any of them, and we aren’t responsible for what a third-party web app does. Its publisher is. You can report a web app from the Oikou app or from its Catalogue page.
If you publish a web app to the Catalogue, you confirm you have the right to, that its Catalogue page describes truthfully what it does and what it asks for, and that it follows these terms.
AI
AI in Oikou runs on the AI provider the owner of a Personal Cloud chose and signed in to on that computer, such as Claude from Anthropic or Codex from OpenAI. That use is under the provider’s terms and that plan’s usage limits. AI can be wrong: check what it tells you and what it changes before you rely on it.
Your content
What you keep in your Personal Cloud is yours. It stays on your computer and we don’t claim any rights to it. You give us only what we need to run your account, such as the name of a Personal Cloud or an invitation you send.
If you got the app from the App Store
You may also use the app under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to support the app or maintain it, and isn’t responsible for claims about it, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims and claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property; we are, to the extent these terms say. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and it will refund the price you paid, if any, and has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Changes to Oikou
Oikou Host is free to run yourself. We may add, change or remove features, and if we ever charge for something, we will tell you the price before you pay it. We may suspend or end the service, and will give notice where we reasonably can.
No warranty
Oikou is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Keep your own backups of anything that matters.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or revenue. Our total liability to you for any claim about Oikou is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 Canadian dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Ending your account
You can stop using Oikou and delete your account at any time; Support says how. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, or if we have to by law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes go to the courts of Alberta, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them somewhere else.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update them here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Using Oikou after that means you accept the new terms.
